The point is that either Justin Roiland or Dan Harmon really like the sauce and are using their platform to try and get it back. Also it's just funny. They did the same thing in season 2 when Rick was going crazy over Nintendo 3DS and begged Nintendo to send them free stuff.

This is going to be wide release only because it's the easiest to look up.
I mean, he's pretty consistent in that his sole motivation has been to appease his father and retain his position of power within the company. More shading is added to that as the season progresses, but Ward is ultimately a pretty coherent character from beginning to end. And even manages to have an arc as well.
