Think of it this way- would he ask that same question to a man?

But that is not, in any way, a sane logical conclusion to come to. For ANY profession. That’s not only the most braindead question one could ask but also shockingly inappropriate under almost every social interaction norm we have. It is in no way the response of a normal person.

I’m sure that sounded better in your head, but thankfully there is time to have another crack at it.

I’m sure Mike Wallace was asked the same thing as well, right?

Because I study culture and how it affects our lives today? Because it was a politically and culturally significant time, especially with regard to race relations and political upheaval? Because I’m interested in the world around me, which means I’m interested in both past events AND current events? Because Manson was

If you can’t figure out whether the question “did you fuck all your sources” is inappropriate, it says a lot about you. It doesn’t say anything about the question.

I didn’t realize that you had to be born before something happened to care about it.

I’m a white-collar professional. It’s not that hard to not say something that would be construed as harassing. If you’re going to make a joke, make one that isn’t harassing.

For example, if you’re going to make a joke about reporting/sourcing, instead of making some weird sexual comment, maybe say something like “if

...yeah. History - who gives a shit? *eyeroll*

“ asking an honest yet blunt question about the way many journalists ply their trade”

It’s hard to work up the courage to rock the boat when you’re a new employee or when you’ve been there a while and really love the place. If everyone else is able to put up with this problematic coworker, why can’t you? Who are you to torpedo the team and ruin the office atmosphere? It’s a trap.

You don’t need to know the context or the entirety of the conversation to know that ‘Did you fuck all your sources?” is inappropriate question. Fuck’s sake. If someone is ignorant, it’s still harassment.

One fun context clue to figure out if this question wasn’t appropriate is that the woman who was asked the question is saying that it wasn’t appropriate.

One frustrating thing I’ve learned from experience: no matter how well liked you are, no matter how good your reputation, there’s always the chance that people will turn on you for talking. We once had someone on staff that... pretty much everyone who worked with him agreed that some of his behaviours were alarming;

To adapt a saying:

Not at work is a good rule of thumb.

Now that people are getting taken down for these injustices at a rapid rate, hopefully something in peoples’ brains click and they realize they don’t get a free pass for their actions. I hope there is a very real sense of dread about what they are doing if ever they even think about anything like this, just as there

How about when you’re with your date/partner/SO in the privacy of your own home?

So, you assume every person who has a tenuous grasp of grammar has a learning disability? Truly...that’s...incredible.
