“This is all slightly funny in that GM did have total EV leadership in the late 1990s with the EV1 and squandered it”
No.
“This is the great story of modern EV history.”
Also no.

I agree with you, millienialharley. Jason has missed the point and goal of autonomous cars. Jason wants to keep the joy of driving, and so do I, but that is not the mainstream future. At some point, not too soon I hope, driving a car or motorcycle for fun will only be possible in the way that riding a horse is…
In the context of an autonomous driving system, if a human has to make an input that the car didn’t anticipate, then it makes sense for those designers to consider that input as a result of an error on the part of the car.
Gotta watch out for the fun police round these parts.....
Okay
Does anyone get the impression that maybe Diesel was just never a great option for normal passenger cars?
Hey, uh, Jalopnik writers. You do realize that as it stands people have been driving on roads and freeways without any redundancies since the beginning of time? As in, vehicles are being piloted by people who are inherently driving less safe than current “semi-autonomous” vehicles, and we have no “safety net”. Person…
1st. & Neutral: Tesla is actually making a product that is selling. The bubble is their stock price. Elon will have to be happy with not being the richest asshole in the world anymore, but he’ll still have a company. One of the problems with the tech bubble bursting was that most of those companies didn’t have an…
While I can often disagree with Erik, I can agree with him on this.
“the only thing I am 100 percent sure of is that the Volkswagen ID.4 will be a complete flop in the U.S.”......I don’t understand this. Why? It’s relatively priced, not awful to look at and certainly would attract those same ‘higher income’ purchasers that the new Nissan Rogue is inexplicably attracting. I don’t think…
the only thing I am one hundred percent sure of is that the Volkswagen ID.4 will be a complete flop in the US.
yeah, cause a 3400 lbs front wheel drive sedan surely has the same driving characteristics as a purpose built rally homologation special that weighs 400 lbs less.....
You think that a 4500lb Camry with 30 more horsepower will be faster than a 2800lb YarisGR?
I can promise you, sports cars are used for fun sporty driving more often than a truck ever trucks anything.
“The dent-proof panels, too, indicate a future where we’ll want to be shielded from nature rather than be a part of it.”
Can you name some stuff that a truck can do that the Cybertruck can't? The only criticism I've found that's vaguely valid is the slanted bed walls, and if you can lower the cost of entry for a high performance truck by also lowering the fuel costs and increasing the interior space and function, then you're offering…
Marketers had nothing to do with “singletons” leaving coupes en masse. God the groupthink here is insufferable.
My wife didn’t believe me when I tried to explain that a VW Golf is a family car in Europe. You can get 2 adults and three small kids in it. No need for a Ford Excursion the second your first kid drops.
