For a long time, saying you were libertarian was just code for “I’m a republican who likes weed”.

it’s amazing how many self-described libertarians have gone hard flirting with fascism over the past few years.

I’m starting to think that as people age they either become harder and more hateful, or softer and more loving. Rush Limbaugh, Qanon, Tea Party politics, etc just hasten the process and make it happen faster.

As a lapsed Catholic, I can tell you nobody got opinions on Catholicism like a lapsed Catholic.

I am continuing my wildly successful and unbroken streak of denying myself organized religion for Lent. I recommend it for everyone.

I’d rather he go before the Senate in his trial and the trial managers just turn him loose. No guardrails, whatsoever. Just let him babble up there. He’ll either incriminate himself, perjure himself, or straight up commit new crimes, right then and there.

Yes, there are vegetarians/vegans who claim the diet is healthier than any diet involving meat. Not all of them, lots of them eat that way for ethical reasons, but there are plenty who think an entirely plant-based diet is objectively healthier.

Are they sold as “healthier”? Are people dumb enough to think that “plant based” and “vegetarian” foods are inherently healthier?

This is a bad take. The last referendum in PR was the largest % to ever vote for statehood in the colony’s history, and you make no case for its possibility, other than “it shouldn’t be” and that it’s “magical thinking” for those who think it’s in the cards.

Yes, it’s disappointing that people want their own health concerns respected, but don’t respect other people’s.

We had a good one in Minnesota, when the Governor set up a vaccination clinic specifically for educators to get the vax so the schools can reopen. This is happening while many 75+ in the state are still unvaccinated.

And I wonder how many of those vaccines are going to people who may have secretly downplayed/denied covid-19? That would be outrageous. It’s bad enough when we got denialist politicians getting the shot/fancy ass treatment if they get it through carelessness.

YUP. This shit is ripe with fraud and they are having so many issues because a certain former president didn’t have a plan in place for vaccination.

I half hope to see Reps. Omar, Tlaib, Jeffries, and Clyburn show up with AR-15s on their shoulders just to see how fast Republicans call for a gun ban on Congress grounds.

Absolutely—there should be rigorously imposed ethical standards for all people dealing with the public, and particularly in medicine and medicine-adjacent fields. And if you can’t do it, you can’t pursue this profession.

Makes me wonder what other medications or vaccinations they have fucked up. I hope they are looking throughout the person’s records to see if anything else has been undermined.

Won’t solve it. The culture is rotten and internalized misogyny is only going to metastasize in that environment. Like all others who enter the force with the best intentions, the ones with scruples will get drummed out or corrupted and only the cool-girl/pick me-types will survive.

I love how a girlfriend’s highly specific and unprompted statement, corroborated by a lawyer who also represented the alleged bomb builder, that the guy was building bombs in an identified location is seen as insufficient for a warrant to search said location, but...

I never really understood that discomfort that veterans say they have with being called “heroes” until COVID.

As one RN to another, I agree. Although it’s often well meaning, to call RNs or any healthcare worker “angels” or “heroes” is just another way to dehumanize us. It allows people to think we’re all super human, and therefore going to be ok and “rise above.” The subtext also being we don’t need better pay or working
