We all have our kitchen tool or gadget that we either have multiple of or buy for some reason (and never use). My mother had both. After she died and my father felt enough time had passed that he would not feel her disapproval in reorganizing her kitchen, he found both.  When she was healthy, she’d spend several days

Keep in mind several things, including this is the average yearly salary, which includes administration and people with years of experience ranging from more recent hires to ones with longer service. Also, Yellowstone, Glacier, and Grand Canyon are the crown jewels of our fantastic national park system, so it’s more

I work in the public sector and see similar issues where I work. There have been some changes at work, including policy and space renovation projects, that have been met with understandable criticism by both boomers and younger people.

Christmas is very much a food holiday. My late mother loved having something different every year once she got it through my dad’s thick skull that she didn’t want to host at least one set of in-laws for Xmas day. Once her least favorite SIL and BIL didn’t come (and there were multiple siblings-in-law and their

The tribes that have casino have tighter criteria. My co-worker’s ex-wife is half Ho-Chunk from her father’s side of the family. It’s unclear whether he was ever enrolled as a tribal member and was gone from Wisconsin well before the casino money started making the tribe rich, after he left his wife to raise their

Maybe learning about Venn diagrams were in one of the classes he missed at Marquette when he was expelled/dropped out.

I like that idea. Mail an envelope full of glitter to both Robin Vos and Scott Fitzgerald’s offices (the ringleaders of this petty ass bunch of sore losers) with one of my Republican relatives’ return addresses and from outside of Madison. It would be likely the Republican relative I like the least, currently my

Yeah, that lack of cognitive awareness that your immigrant ancestors themselves encountered discrimination from nativist politicians and their followers is astonishing to say the least.

I went to high school in rural northern Illinois and the ones that didn’t leave the area to go to college and/or get any higher education have conservative views that are very similar to their parents. Democrats, liberals, and progressives were very much a minority there, including among the teachers. Even back in

Yeah, my sister really made our dinner this year a big production. It took almost 9 hours for the 3o lb turkey with stuffing to cook. It took another hour and a half to bake the sides and bread. We still have a lot of leftovers to eat up or freeze, too much for three people to handle. Thankfully, we’re making soup

Yeah, that does happen. My boss was confused on why one of the student workers, who happens to be from Mexico, doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. She also was shocked to discover that Cinco de Mayo in Mexico is more similar to Presidents’ Day/Lincoln’s Birthday than it is to the 4th of July. Our poor student had to

Another Wisconsin public sector worker here. My gut feeling is that because of mostly morale issues, the unions if allowed could make a comeback. Enough of the people that honestly abused the union protections are gone and them bouncing from job to job, despite not being very good at doing even the bare minimum is

I think that the 2016 batch was smaller previous years because some of the 2015 production had to be recalled.  I managed to get one bottle at my local Whole Foods.

Similar background here. My mother was the in the middle of 9 kids and my dad is the youngest of 7. Both came from very conservative Republican families who for various reasons including primarily having student loan debt thanks to Reagan (Mom) and a second pointless war started by a President Bush (Dad), eventually

That’s something I still don’t understand. I’m fine with a fleece or heavy coat for the short time I have to be outside. The longest I’m out is when I have to wait 15 minutes for the bus heading home. I got a nice coat from Uniqlo last year because the North Face one was too bulky to wear while sitting on the bus.

Hey, we made Scott Walker unemployed and homeless as of January 6, 2019 and it would be the cherry and whipped cream on our sundae if Mike McCarthy was out of a job by the end of the year.  I think even the people who voted for Walker would be behind having McCarthy gone.  The one debate that guarantees bipartisan

It’s very similar on US college campuses in areas that get snow and a real winter. We got our first snow that stuck didn’t melt right away last week in Wisconsin and the Canada Goose coats/winter boots combos made their first appearance of the season. I’m a lifelong midwest resident and I know that’s overkill for

Thanks. My sister and I aren’t that sad we won’t be going this year. Her place is usually over crowded and the only time we’re useful is when the dishes need to be done. Last year, she started her usual holiday day drinking earlier than normal and the turkey was somewhat dry because it stayed in the oven too long.

That brings back memories of my late mother’s chocolate creme pie. She wasn’t a chocolate person but her husband, kids, and multiple in-laws adored that pie. She made her own pie crust from scratch, using Crisco, then baked it. The bottom layer was chocolate pudding and the top layer was real whipped cream.

Well considering that Penn State was the latest victim of Michigan’s 2018 revenge tour, it’s appropriate.
