I think we have to realize that there really isn’t star power anymore like there used to be. There are famous actors and musicians, but there is so much choice and fragmentation that no one has that overall power like they used to just 25 years ago.

The A.V. Club: Grudgingly tolerate

I deleted both my Twitter accounts today. It’s just not worth keeping up with any more, and this was the final straw. From now on the A.V. Club comments are all the in-the-moment social media I need. Or want. Or grudgingly tolerate.

I can only hope that Twitter finally fails as a company in his hands.

I really don’t know why straight guys are so incredibly stupidly demanding on a guy’s physical appearance. Do they expect everyone to look like a squared jaw Chad meme? Where have they learned that?

That’s such a weird expectation. If he was super good-looking the smart play (unless he had a serious and compelling reason to keep his identity secret, like a job-related issue or somesuch) would be to play that up. I’m no marketing expert, but it seems like that would get more engagement than the mask gimmick.

It’s weird seeing a movie from the year I was born described as though it’s been around for like 50 years.

What does that mean? It seems weirdly phrased. As you saying he hits on minors or talks about sex with them in a creepy way or just doesn’t pretend it doesn’t exist? Those are pretty different situations.

A conversation with my 13-year old after reading this ‘news’ article:

Me: Hey, do you know the youtube guy, Dream, who does Minecraft videos?
Son: Uhh, yeah. Why?
Me: Do you know he revealed his face recently?
Son: <looks around> So?

That pretty much sums it up.

I can’t believe millions of anonymous people with the power to send messages electronically across miles would do something like this. It’s almost like they feel powerful because they’re hidden and have no consequences to fear. I didn’t see this one coming...

I think it’s also fair to point out that there’s actually plenty of gay rom-coms. This might be the first wide release one from a major studio, but people with active interest in the genre haven’t really been starved for them.
