No, definitely not an AP Stylebook thing. I just checked the online version, which says under Abbreviations: “It is not necessary to spell out the most common abbreviations on first reference: NFL, AFC, NFC, NBA, NHL, NCAA, PGA, LPGA, USGA, NASCAR, MLB, AL, NL, FIFA.”

I think what is also weird is that the statement tweet didn’t include the periods in NBA. Since it is being transcribed from one place to another, I thought the original text would remain unedited, possible with a [sic] if the periods were needed. Full disclosure, I’m not an editor.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out the timeframe myself. I remember them saying it would start before Elseworlds, but not how much earlier. My guess would be your speculation that it’ll catch up with everyone else in time for the crossover.

I think they are supposed to be twin sisters on the show but am not 100% sure & did not catch it actually being said in the episode, though canonically apparently it is the case
