I feel like... post apocalypse? It doesn’t fit her persona in Overwatch because that’s EXACTLY what a re-imagining should do. Be different. They don’t need to “get” the character for this to work, because this kind of fan art is distinguished by the differences.

One of her quotes is “The destruction caused by the omnics here... It reminds me of home.” She is young, but has definitely been through some traumas :(

I don’t know. She’s kinda young to have first hand experience from the Korean war. I’m not sure that event could heavily scar her personally. I mean... the Koreans I know aren’t walking around shell shocked but... I mean, to make a concession... Korea is still a war zone.

I might be weak on the lore. She’s not

You must be D.va’s BFF! i never knew someone could know the very essence of a video game character so well! How DARE the artist envision something different from what D.va would REALLY do. Cause the real world and all.

If you think tragic life events can’t change a person, think again.

With all due respect, I disagree. Simply for the fact that a great many things can happen in a decade-plus. That’s what makes this interesting- people are not static. These images, in my mind, make me ask “Wonder what happened to make her withdraw like that?”

I think the artist tried to portray D.va in a dystopian world where everybody has died. Imagine some kind of cataclysm (Omnics?) that wiped out the human population except for the heroes who were strong enough to survive. With nobody around to help her, D.va is forced to work on her own mech in a dark(ened) old

Counterpoint. In one of the Overwatch cinematic they show D.Va off on her own fighting a giant robot, sans any unit. And this is 10+ years in the future, things could change. Maybe all those times her unit wasn’t pushing the payload really got to her.

She literally comes from a country that was burned down in a world war and is just barely hanging on to the point that they are now resorting to sending children to fight, and she grew up watching tons of innocent people die horribly, and she now spends her days fighting killer robots and human mercenaries to the

Well, that’s the thing about “reimagining,” it can be done to any character in any way.

I took the art piece as D.Va being in some alternate reality where an Omnic War led to an apocalypse she somehow survived in, and she had to go underground to keep her mecha in tip-top shape.

Unless...

Tragic Occurrence!

Who knows what future D.Va has seen?

...or done....

That’s Dva as you know her now. What if ten years from now the war has gone badly, her government has collapsed, and her team is dead?

I feel like this is portraying a future where the Omnics won. South Korea in ruins and said team is dead. It’s not that unbelievable considering her voice line on Eichenwalde.

“Reimagining” is defined as “to reinterpret (an event, work of art, etc) imaginatively; rethink”. So what you’re saying “wouldn’t happen even under the darkest of circumstances” is EXACTLY what reimagining is and could happen in a reimagining. Very much like cosplayers reimagine male Tracer or female Reinhart.

So.............D.VA in Titanfall 3 confirmed?

This is excellent. I know I’m an Overwatch nerd but we seriously need more takes on realistic Overwatch characters. This would look right at home tearing apart zerglings in a Starcraft trailer.

This is by far my favorite art series yet.
