Stereogum did a great bit on this last year:
The non-Super Cat version was played on adult contemporary or variety stations that served a more middle-of-the-road audience. Which is to say it didn't contain scary "rapping." The same stations would play TLC's "Waterfalls" without Left Eye's rap verse.
Shout out to fellow Clevelander listing to 106.5 the Lake. I fully accept acting like a middle-aged man before I'm actually there.
It's like Lorne Michaels says about SNL (paraphrasing): Everyone's favorite cast in the one that was on when they were 13-14-15. Old enough to stay up late to watch, but not old enough to be out on Saturday nights.

I was so obsessed with having all of my CDs fit into my CD tower that I carefully cut the cardboard disc sleeve and placed it into a empty jewel case. Can't remember what I did for the binding label.
….I love that song so much. But I see where you're coming from.
Where I find "Let It Be" very vanilla, "The Long and Winding Road" is an instant skip, right from the start. And I love later solo McCartney. But blecch.
