I caught Diesel Kiki at Lolla ‘95. Awesome show.

That sounds harrowing - I’ve slid off the road a few times, usually at slower speeds, but nothing like that. Black ice scares me more than regular snow.

Bringing up mud was stupid, but I do wonder if a lot of snow would get stuck in there and jam the doors. I mean, these weren’t weekend fun cars when new, people dailied them, and that included driving home from work in a snowstorm if you lived somewhere that’s a thing.  Also, as someone who used to daily a car with

So, at a previous retail job I had, we would get audited twice a year at random - the auditor would just show up at 8 am and away you went, your day shot shepherding an auditor all over the place. One of the auditors was a complete jerk, the kind of guy who would finish an audit, realize you’d done well, then go back

I’ve never done a full engine rebuild, but I sure felt that way when I rebuilt the carbs or did ignition work on some of my previous cars.

I’ve also never done a full resurrection but I do kind of feel that way when I get our MG out of the garage for the first time in the spring (usually sometime in March - basically

I’ve actually seen a lot of “first start after sitting for years” videos. Lots of different vehicles, cars, trucks, industrial engines, etc. Watching giant diesel engines start up is kind of fascinating.

I used this technique on my last car, when the tubes for the washers cracked so nothing would spray. I did it for quite a while - after replacing them the washers were never very good so I’d still use that method.

When I finally got a new car, the difference was shocking.

Judging from the number of SUV’s I see in the ditch during the first snowy day here, it makes perfect sense as to what happens. People drive off in 4wd thinking they’re invincible, then hit the brakes and go straight on because either they locked them up (older ones) or the ABS kicked in and they just hung on for dear

I seem to recall that the turn signal stalks of the various 80's GM cars my friends drove were particularly brittle feeling. Like, we had an ‘87 Accord, and the turn signal stalk had a light and easy feel, with a distinct detent but a barely audible click. The stalk in my GF’s ‘87 Chevy of some kind felt like snapping

Yeah, I actually like their burgers better than their hot dogs (which are just Vienna Beef or something, not a specific Portillo’s recipe or anything). But my jam is the Maxwell Street Polish - oh man.

So, my friend Sam is a California transplant and always raved about In n Out, how whenever his folks would fly back

Well where do you think all those stretch cruise ships rich kids rent for prom come from?

Yeah, season five was still very good, even if not quite at Trinity Killer levels.

Re: glasses sliding down. I’ve discovered that if I wrap the elastic around the arms of my glasses, they stay put. It sort of helps with fogging on my better cloth masks (with little metal strips for the bridge of your nose) as they don’t quite end up in the fog zone.

I will wait for the gritty reboot, where Chip drops out of high school to tour with his band and winds up in jail, the twins are running a test taking scam, Thirsty is basically Frank Gallagher, and Lois is cheating on Hi and eventually leaves him, taking Trixie and the dog with, which causes severe depression and the

Ditto except I don’t live in a city, I just lack space. I’ve been building a model railroad for my father the last couple of years, and frankly I’ve not really missed having a broken car to tinker with.

Hell, I’ll probably go back to building scale model cars again - I’ve bought all the tools!

It brings new meaning to the phrase “He Went To Jared”

“So that pedal, that’s your accelerator, and that one’s the brake. Kind of like an automobile”

Or...exactly like one?

Ditto. He was the best.

I’m waaay out in the western burbs, but there are some fireworks going off right now during the speech.

Funnily, I was driving somewhere this morning, and stopped to fill my car when my phone woke up with a news alert that Pennsylvania had been called for Biden. I was listening to Saturday Morning Flashback on XRT*

Shouldn’t that droid have a big “RENOWN” logo down the side?
