Fair enough assessment, but I stand by my assertion that the review would not have suffered in the least from the spoiler either being removed, or rephrased so as to avoid naming the individual in question.
Not to downplay your review or anything, Chris— great work on that— but I’m curious as to how Stephen or Evan feel about the game within the context of it’s portrayal of Batman vs. the comics / other media [I choose them because I know they are the ‘comic dudes’ on Kotaku— if you are in the know, please feel free to…
What you see as “anger” I see as sarcasm. I’m not angry with Chris for his “minor spoilers.” I just disagree with the “minor” part.
I’d already encountered the spoiler in this article a few days ago (Steam forums are a dangerous place prior to a game’s launch; more the fool I), but I have to say that your approach to those who called you out for said spoiler is both disingenuous and a little insulting.
When you say, “if you’re so into this that…
I agree with your riddler trophy opinions. I can't imagine someone saying that they didn't enjoy collecting them. If you beat up enough thugs you had all the locations on the map and then you got to spend some time and figure out how to actually get them. If you like puzzles in a game at all, you loved the riddler…
I did all the Riddler trophies in the first game. But there was some stupid movement challenges in the 2nd game that turned me off on the whole thing (not actual trophies, tried to get them all!). So I skipped the whole thing.

Honestly this has been one title that I’ve been looking forward to but one I’ve also been on the fence about. I’ve been reading the Arkham Knight comic series to lead up to the game and I’ve enjoyed them greatly. This makes me want to go and get the game instead of waiting on it.
You’ve been avoiding the Riddler trophies since 2009? The Arkham series was one of the few games that I actually thought did a quality job with their collectathons.
he said minor spoilers, not major spoilers like the one mentioned in the review
It’s been said before elsewhere in the comments, but I guess it bears repeating. “Minor spoilers, dudes” does not cover a certain actor returning to play a certain character, especially prior to the game’s release. That is unequivocally a major spoiler.
As a totally non-professional person, Surely the major plot element did not have to be put in the review and spoilers could have been avoided altogether?
I’m hoping the next game is “Batman: Beyond Arkham” (or Batman Beyond: Arkham). I’ve been hoping it for years - I feel like Terry would give such a fresh approach to the Arkham formula with future thugs and flight-suit, not to mention Old-Bruce as backup on comms all the time.
Agreed... I don’t think that the “minor” spoiler is all that minor. Also, I do think it’s a good idea to put a bold spoiler alert warning within the review for those that like to skim through articles.
It says minor spoilers. The character was dead. That’s not minor.
I’m going to say that I totally agree. If this review came out a week or so after the game’s release, then I wouldn’t be as upset... but most of us can’t even play it yet and BOOM, a surprise (although not much of one...) ruined.
Sorry, but no, that so-called spoiler warning does not justify giving the game away about you know who returning to play you know who.
I came right down to the comments first to see how severe the spoiler was. Now that I know it’s bad, I’ll see you guys back in here in a month or so.
Rather than just show a picture. Let’s all look at a video. Shall we?
