I get it but I’m too cynical to really get it (if that makes any sense). I’ve always been suspicious of someone trying to sell me something (religious or otherwise) so there’s a disconnect that I can understand about not really “getting it”.  If something is too good to be true it probably is.

I totally agree. I loved it growing up but it really didn’t age well (or perhaps I got old and could no longer relate to it). It’s a time capsule of 90's angst and it just makes me cringe now. Some songs still hold up though.
