Ugh—yeah, that’s a major red flag. Who’s got time for micromanaging bullshit and treating a manager like a snowflake when women’s rights are under attack?

I wouldn’t disagree with any of this. I would just argue that she was a very effective public face for the organization, in all its complexity.

My company sponsored an exhibit at the Smithsonian. The sponsorship ended over a year ago. It’s been a while since I’ve been to the exhibit so I don’t know about the physical signs but our logo is still on the bottom of the page for the exhibit on the Smithsonian website. It’s not a big exhibit that usually has a

No, unless the contract was particularly poorly written, there should be a clause saying the museum reserves the right to delete names like this if keeping them will bring bad publicity, opprobrium, etc, with no refund. Every naming rights agreement I have ever worked on (and I’ve worked at several universities,

Ok. My point was that McCarthy does not have the right energy for the role, and that someone like Tituss Burgess does. I’m open to the concept that she could be played by anyone, I just haven’t seen any evidence to that effect.

I am honestly ambivalent about McCarthy specifically, but I am not the type to be essentialist about a part modeled on a drag queen needing to be played by someone of a certain gender or gender expression. I’m not trying to be argumentative, I just think it’s a bit of a funny discussion.

It’s so funny that stuff like this doesn’t disqualify anybody from anything. That complete idiot will still be on the 50-most-influential-women-in-media list and will still be a frequent specter on cable shows and will still write long thinkpieces in Reason magazine despite revealing the depths of her ignorance.

This is such a major factor. Cecile Richards was a really amazing leader who managed to run the organization with a perfect balance of focus on the various aspects of PP, from health care to political action to community building to research to fundraising.

This is where he destroys his own efforts at being a political influencer; it’s called the Peter Principle.

It’s also probably not easy following Cecile Richards...

It stuns me that they would go so far as to remove the name and then dissemble about the reason. Oh, the naming rights expired. Please.

Utica used to be way more rundown (80s through 90s).  It’s started to turn it around this past decade.

Shouldn’t all these issues have been discussed before the appointment to the position?

Liz Mair tweeted (and eventually deleted) that his passing would create an uproar that would make Gorsuch’s and Kavanaugh’s hearings seem like a walk in the park.

I mean, I’m okay with a large funny woman playing the part?

I feel like the underrepresentation of women in sexual abuse statistics is, itself, a manifestation of sexism. Women can’t be perceived as sexual abusers in a patriarchal system because sex with them is seen as a commodity to be obtained—if you’re male and you don’t want sex with a woman, that’s seen as a defect to be

I am trying to be really careful about these Nazi references. Nobody is being sent to death camps. Neither of this girl’s parents were murdered by the state. This stuff is cruel and wrong and people have died, but in my opinion comparing it so quickly to Naziism is an easy rhetorical win for conservatives.

No Annie Murphy, no peace.

First, I just want to say a big congratulations to Team Cabaret Schitt’s Creek. You guys were awesome.

I am really honestly curious how you drew that conclusion. It doesn’t seem like the other driver was doing anything but getting hit by an inattentive cop. Can you suss out his speed based on the 1/2 second of the video when you can see him driving? Do you know off the top of your head if the speed limit on that street
