They make tons of money but they are not all that often the sons and daughters of great wealth. I’m not sure why you have that impression. Jon Bon Jovi, George Takei, Rivers Cuomo, Jon Hamm, Steve Buscemi, these are not people who grew up with tons of money.

I . . . kind of like the sunglasses?

I am really glad this wasn’t a launch event for a new app they’re releasing.

I wouldn’t disagree with any of this. I would just argue that she was a very effective public face for the organization, in all its complexity.

I can see this happening. Maintaining up-to-date logos at the bottom of every page of your website might not be the highest priority. Unlike, say, naming an entire wing of your building.

I’m only getting more confident you aren’t someone I want or need on my side of a conflict of ideas. Not sure if that’s what you’re going for.

No, unless the contract was particularly poorly written, there should be a clause saying the museum reserves the right to delete names like this if keeping them will bring bad publicity, opprobrium, etc, with no refund. Every naming rights agreement I have ever worked on (and I’ve worked at several universities,

I am honestly ambivalent about McCarthy specifically, but I am not the type to be essentialist about a part modeled on a drag queen needing to be played by someone of a certain gender or gender expression. I’m not trying to be argumentative, I just think it’s a bit of a funny discussion.

It’s so funny that stuff like this doesn’t disqualify anybody from anything. That complete idiot will still be on the 50-most-influential-women-in-media list and will still be a frequent specter on cable shows and will still write long thinkpieces in Reason magazine despite revealing the depths of her ignorance.

This is such a major factor. Cecile Richards was a really amazing leader who managed to run the organization with a perfect balance of focus on the various aspects of PP, from health care to political action to community building to research to fundraising.

Easy.

That’s cool if you think that’s helpful. I will keep doing what I’m doing.

It stuns me that they would go so far as to remove the name and then dissemble about the reason. Oh, the naming rights expired. Please.

I mean, I’m okay with a large funny woman playing the part?

I am trying to be really careful about these Nazi references. Nobody is being sent to death camps. Neither of this girl’s parents were murdered by the state. This stuff is cruel and wrong and people have died, but in my opinion comparing it so quickly to Naziism is an easy rhetorical win for conservatives.

I honestly don’t think about award shows very much but I was recently watching Schitt’s Creek and I could not stop thinking about how much she deserves an Emmy nomination.

My mom, who is generally not on top of pop culture, started watching this when it first started airing several years ago, and I have a vivid memory of a phone call where she talked to me about the show for like 5 solid minutes and said I HAD to watch it. I basically ignored her and just a couple weeks ago I randomly

I know this isn’t the point of your post, but I went to a wedding two years ago in upstate NY and stayed in Utica, and while I thought it had obviously seen better times, I actually found it somewhat charming. At least, I wouldn’t call it post-apocalyptic. I’ve lived in a couple horrifying cities that are, on their

It’s interesting to consider, although I think there is still an imperative to not accidentally have sex with your half sister or whatever.

Need I add that I am dismissing plenty of replies that say things like “but there ARE thousands of men in prison because of baseless accusations from some bitch”
