Sorry, I’m not sure why I’m so upset about the consistent practice of cultural appropriation and whitewashing in Hollywood. It’s no big deal.

In the comics, Swinton’s character is a stereotypical “wise Asian” character, which many people find offensive. Rewriting that role as a white woman removes that, and creates a role for a woman. And then, they wrote a new Asian role and cast an Asian actor. No Asian actors lost work, a role for a woman was created, a…
You’re criticized either way. You dump the guy you’re a power obsessed, robotic bitch putting your career above your husband and child. You don’t and then you’re an idiot who should’ve put your career first.
But it’s a damned if you do/don’t situation. A huge critique of many successful women is that they’re these power obsessed, craven people. People say Hillary is just married for political reasons and it’s a marriage for power. Or they give her shit for staying. So if you dump the asshole you’re criticized for putting…
Right, she knew years ago that he would eventually sext a teenager and that Comey would use that to spew some bullshit about emails he knew were duplicates. She should have been psychic, and is automatically wrong for not immediately divorcing her husband instead of trying to work things out after he was caught…
So she is at fault simply because she attempted to remain married to a man caught sexting other women? She was supposed to know that Comey would contrive a way to pretend that there was something to investigate on her computer years later, in relation to her husband sexting a teenager, which hadn’t happened yet? No.…
If I’ve learned anything from this place, it’s that “progressives” won’t direct blame at a straight white male.
Sorry, no — people like this “young woman” make the real stories less believable, particularly to those who don’t WANT to believe them. She is part of a problem — not ALL the problems, but A problem. Fuck her. I’m not doing mental gymnastics to try to say this shit is not utterly abhorrent, sorry.
Frankly, I wouldn’t blame Clinton (or Obama) one bit if they just flipped us off and went and lived the rest of their lives in peace and luxury.
I will never understand why men feel they can demand women have a full head of luscious, long hair and bitch when we cut it off but also expect us to have no hair below our eyebrows. We don’t get to choose how and where our hair grows.
Yes they do. PBS Frontline did a whole documentary about what life is really like in Saudi Arabia, once you leave the Westernized posh area of Dubai.http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/saudi-arabia-uncovered/
How is this a good thing? A burkini in a pageant contest is completely ridiculous. I can understand if she wants to wear a conservative one-piece, but if you want to be “religiously modest” then maybe don’t participate in a contest of vanity?
That’s a fair point, but if we go further, I don’t think the rapes/sexual violence are really explored fully after that - what the woman experiences after, the isolation, the shame, etc. It’s all kind of swept under a rug of “and that moved the plot along and now we’re going to move on to something else.”
Except it’s not just some backstory- rape on screen is often depicted in a graphic, sexualized, and even pornographic manner.
So, I know you gave only two examples, but I’m wondering: has a director ever pulled this shit with a man? Or are they only ever using the element of surprise for a “genuine” reaction from female types? Because there’s nothing fucked up about that whatsoever.
I’d draw a distinction between what Scott did in Alien (scared the crap out of his actors with unexpected gross special effects) and what Kubrick did to Duvall and Bertolucci here. The first example might be a little mean but is ultimately pretty harmless. The latter two were psychological, emotional, and physical…
That’s the part that enrages and baffles me the most (aside from everything else, I honestly can’t decide). You literally hire actors to pretend to feel emotion. There is no reason to force them to actually feel it. There is no fucking reason to make a woman really feel like she’s going to get raped. Talk to her like…
I didn’t want Maria to act her humiliation, her rage. I wanted Maria to feel, not to act, the rage and humiliation.
I’ve told a couple friends that when they get their incel-ly whining on.
Heh. I imagine most men could have way more sex than they are if they were willing to literally fuck anyone who would have them, regardless of whether they were attracted to them in the slightest.
