There’s no shortage of American actors, but Superman, Dr. Strange, and the last two Spider-Men have been Brits. Our superheroes are iconic American roles, but we have no problem with Brits playing them except that Cavill can’t do an American (OK, American-raised Kryptonian) accent very well.

To all Doctor speculators, a tip: it’s not going to be some already famous from movies, so save your breath on Idris Elba (a perennial favourite), and probably Ben Whishaw. Playing the Doctor is a major time commitment, and no one who wants to be in movies regularly is going to sign up.
