My hubby’s grandparents walked across the Canadian border and settled. No English was spoken in their homes. His father learned English when he went to school....and there was no outcry about kids of immigrants not speaking English.

Yeah, indentured servants were not the same as slaves. They couldn’t sell your kids, there was a time limit, when you met the required time limit you were afforded the same rights as others around you, your children weren’t indentured, etc., etc., etc.
