Unfortunately I don’t think your logic quite works out. Regardless of how you purchase - full purchase price, carrier payment plans, or iUP - you will pay your local sales tax on the new device you are purchasing, and all methods pay the same amount of tax.

But what’s the alternative? If you finance through the carrier you’re paying tax up front. If you buy it with cash you’re paying tax up front. Where can I buy a new iPhone and not pay tax?
