I just wanted to compliment your explanation using "geocentrism" as an example. This debate/conversation/discussion/whatever about what homeopathy refers to could have gone on forever* but you neatly summed up the the flaw in the OP's usage.

As of 6:30 EST, Star Wars has a solid, 10-point lead. I'm thinking (hoping) that the multi-week duration of this thing may mean less and less rando Brownshirts coming over from Reddit as it progresses.
Dude, I wouldn't worry about him/her too much. Look at their user name. Ayn Rand and the Jebus? That positively screams troll.
Thank you. And yes, terrifying.
With all the recent (digital) ink I've seen spilled over the ways this could all play out, I'm getting the feeling that:
1. George R. R. Martin is clashing with HBO in a fairly big way. If they were anywhere close to being on the same page, I would expect him to play it close to the vest. All this talk makes me wonder…
I'm sincerely, honestly confused about the number of commenters who are taking this seriously.
I mean, it's obviously a joke.
Right?
I'm right, aren't I?!?
Agreed. That's what really grabbed me when I saw the movie — nothing I'd ever seen before made me appreciate how terrifying the physical reality of falling through space would be. Seeing Bullock reach towards something, miss it by an inch and knowing that she would be doomed... yikes.
Even though I knew, logically,…
Damn. Earlier today I maintained that B & W would end up looking gimmicky (or inaccessible.)
I stand corrected.
(I do maintain, however, that the memories should be in color. That's just as critical to the story's themes as the B&W.)
Confession (I guess?) — I've never read any of the Discworld stuff. I know people love it, I know there's a ton of it but I'm much more a science-fiction chick than a fantasy chick. The only thing I actually know about the books is there's a turtle involved.
So how do I do this thing? Is it a numbered series? Should I…
Sorry, yeah. I'm one, actually.
Not speaking specifically about Pullman but there are plenty of good reasons someone may not have read a particular body of work - simply haven't gotten to it, interest level in that brand of genre fiction, something personal about the author that put them off...
That aside, my point was…
I get the frustration, believe me, I do. There's been a few thing make me question the future of humanity (not being serious...well, not entirely serious.) But I think we should all remember a few things:
I imagine that this particular head-to-head is simply down to the numbers.
There's a good chance that even the most dedicated fantasy/sci-fier hasn't been exposed to the Discworld series. But Tolkien? I'd give even odds that the recent past has seen LotR branded Happy Meals. The films really cemented his work in the…
Hmm. I've evaluated your photographic evidence and the results are in!
You guys don't really look alike. You've got similar noses though.
I love a properly executed "cool story, bro."
Not sarcasm, BTW. Straight truth.
The B + W/color stuff is extremely effective when described on the page, but might end up seeming gimmicky or confusing (probably both) on screen. IMHO, they can convey the same exact thing by using a mostly colorless palate for the "contemporary" scenes and vivid splashes of color in the memories. And the trailer…
Are you sure you're on the right site?
;-)
Eech. Go back to "Red Pill", dude.
What's really infuriating is the look on some of these peoples' faces. It's a smug, satisfied expression - the way the know-it-all kid on the debate team looks after crushing his opponents. The pastor who starts spreaking @ 00:43 really exemplifies what I'm talking about .
I think the issue is that they just launched this thing (experiment/study?) Without any data having been gathered, whatever is driving the options is random at this point.
I almost think it's not paint, but flour (or something?) Which makes it even stranger. I count one paint/flour free photo in this whole series. Huh.
