As an owner of both and someone with 500-ish hours in P3rd and 240-something in 3U on the 3DS, I agree that they are pretty much directly comparable. If anything, the 3D helps a ton for giving a sense of depth for some of the shorter weapons.

The soundtrack was part of the appeal! Mother has always had weird, jarring and almost intrusive parts to the individual scores, and I think it adds a great build to the trailer. I would listen to the score.
