I had pretty much the exact same take, I actually ended up liking the movie quite a bit even while also thinking it was kinda dumb 

I liked the movie, which is weird because it has so much stuff I don’t like. It’s a character study, which I usually hate. It’s mostly slow, which I usually don’t have time for. The action it has is mostly incidental to the plot and pretty unnecessary. And it’s dumb as rocks as far as space is coconcerned.

I felt like a David Attenborough narration would have helped the reader on this one.
