The US isn’t a monolithic entity. Lots of people deny science. Lots of violent cops. Lots of gun violence. Lots of corruption. Attitudes on sex is in some places at the levels of third world fundamentalist countries.

I think the metric system was offered as further ‘proof’ that Americans are neanderthals. Admittedly there are other better reasons like condoning extreme violence by cops, the obsession with guns, not caring about science, education or the poor, stupid sex mores, rampant corruption...

Of the 2 high profile Malaysian crashes, one remains a mystery while the other was a victim of a missile attack by possibly the Russians. The other crash from an airline of that country (Air Asia) was a budget airline’s Indonesian arm, which had been allowed to fly in contravention of regulations.
