I’m pretty sure that Aux Cores are this game’s gem system. Seems like other people noticed this in August:
You can get everything in the game without amiibos: moons, costumes etc.
You can basically buy moons post-game until the maximum moon count of 999. Seems like there is no other limit. The game seems to assume that you will buy them because it only has 880 unique moons so the rest of the 999 need to be bought.
