I'm not convinced that Norah's reality was "real." Did you notice that the hill she had to climb in order to untangle the goat kept getting steeper and steeper? Like impossibly, ridiculously steep. That scene seems very dream-like to me.

I think there's also a very real possibility that "The Book of Nora" represented her final, dream-like thoughts right after the machine zapped her and she died. Or perhaps this is Nora's afterlife. Something was definitely "off" in her world, though. Anyone else notice that the hill she had to climb in order to…
AGREED!
There was a moment at the end of the episode when a very emotional John says to Kevin "I don't understand what's happening" and Kevin replies "Neither do I" that I thought summed up the whole point of The Leftovers quite nicely.
Yes, but it would explain why Nora would want a job like that. She'd jump at any chance to learn what might have really happened to her family.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!
I suspect he is responsible for Regina King's hearing loss. He obviously did something that she can't forgive him for, and sooner or later they've got to dive into her impairment.
Freddie!
But since it seems like the old man on the tower saw Patti as well, I'm leaning towards the possibility that she's real.
The fact that the man in the tower can also see Patty (or so it seems) leads me to believe that she's not just in Kevin's mind.
I got the feeling that the earthquake and the connected event of the draining of the pond were divine intervention to thwart Kevin's suicide attempt. He jumped into the pond with a cinder block tied to his leg, but then an earthquake suddenly caused the pond to drain, leaving him with no way to drown.
Ghost Patti doesn't just narrate what's going on…. she has predictive powers. She knew where Kevin's cellphone was and led him to it. She also told him not to get into the truck with John. It seems she might actually be trying help him but he's reluctant to acknowledge that she's real.

Nora didn't ask him for details because she probably didn't want him pressing for details of her f*cked up admission.
