The Player is, hands down, my favorite Altman film, which is saying a lot. I think it makes for the perfect double bill with my second favorite Altman film, The Long Goodbye, which in some ways this is an unofficial sequel to the Hollywood aspects of.
And of course the very first thing you see in The Player is a mural inside the studio of the final scene from Sunset Blvd., as Norma Desmond descends the stairs into the camera- thus connecting the two films in a shared lexicon.
