I’m glad to see the square waffles! I have my mom’s old waffle iron, which was probably made in the 70s, and it makes square waffles. I did buy a newer, deeper round waffle iron and it was garbage. I will be sad when my old iron dies.

I have to agree. She is...not very good. She oozes “bored indifference” from every pore, but can’t bring any life to her eyes at all.

My mom’s dog ate 14 mini snickers bars once. He was absolutely fine.

This is beautiful. I’m a musician, and my mother is not, so often, if we are listening to a band or something, she will clap on 1 and 3, and I will counterpoint on 2 and 4 and stare her down. She doesn’t appreciate this, for some reason. Altering the musical reality is much more elegant, as well as friendlier.

I’m sure someone else has mentioned this, but “cutting off 1/4 inch at the bottom” seems like a way to get fibrous stems, no matter the cooking method. I just rewatched the Truman Show with my kids, and man is it ever good. I had forgotten how great it is, and that opening sequence is definitely a part of it.

I finally got to watch this episode, and watched it straight through twice in a row. Amazing. As soon as Sterling K. Brown sauntered into the office I got excited, and the excitement didn’t end until the ep did. Crazy good.

I am so glad I’m not the only adult that does this. I wish they hadn’t done away with Spoiler Space, here, because I need to know what happens, but there is no way I could watch this.

So glad to see mashed potatoes + hotdogs on this list! Used to make that all the time. I always used a piece of plain ol’ sandwich bread, buttered, then slathered with mashed potatoes, either with a hot dog cut up in them or just laid across. Delicious.

I thought they were implying that Randall and Tess were going to see Deja in jail, and she’s there for murdering Beth, speaking of worst case scenarios. And that doesn’t make me feel any better. This is a terrible game. 

One of my favorite movies of all time. Plays great to kids, as well! They love that car chase.

I have to drive through Detroit (from Canada) to get to my mom’s house in Ohio, and the highways are so ridiculously bad that my kids and I watch anxiously for the “Welcome to Ohio!” sign to come up. I haven’t read Trevor Noah’s book, but his turn on “Comedians in Cars getting Coffee” was fascinating (it took place right when he was beginning on the Daily Show), where he told a bit of this story. Absolutely jaw-dropping.

Oh, so sad. His scene with Olympia Dukakis in Moonstruck is one of my favorite scenes in anything, ever. I also remember seeing him in a stage production of House of Blue Leaves that they showed on PBS, and he was absolutely amazing. And I loved him as Martin Crane, of course, as should any human.
