You can't use a fictitious Jew as proof that Christians were persecuted.
You can't use a fictitious Jew as proof that Christians were persecuted.
That line makes me question things, because there are definitely Christians who believe that, but they are the types of Christians who would never even find (let alone use) a fanfic site because their internet filters are too strong. I'm leaning on the side of this being fake.
What 11 year olds are trying to be like career women, let alone following the fashion and philosophy of a show that hasn't been on television since before they were born? I know a fair few 11 year olds and career and fashion is not high on their list- minecraft is. I always think it's so weird how much religious…
Slight problem... even if that guy had existed, he was a Jew.
[Dumbledore's] voice had a distinctive southern twang to it that made Harry feel so safe and welcome.
This is the best example of Poe's Law I've ever seen. If I ever have the opportunity to teach a class, I'm going to include this. I don't care if it's completely unrelated. I'm not even going to try to relate it to the topic at hand.
I read a hilarious review of Harry Potter by some fundamentalist Christian outlining all of the evil attitudes promoted by the books (and made palatable by all the "fun" and "storytelling," which makes them even MORE dangerous!) and one of the things he harped on was that the children "go on nighttime excursions in…
Christian CRIMINALS. Big difference.
Having read so, so much fanfic (like, in the millions of words and I should really find another hobby), I would not be even the tiniest bit surprised if it was the former. I have opened a whole lot of fics, read a couple paragraphs, and had to just walk away from my computer for a minute. For every incredible fic that…
I saw a documentary that linked the adoption of Christianity by rulers with it's good/bad, christian/pagan dichotomy which made it a useful tool. Anyone who opposes you isn't a good Christian so they are evil and deserve punishment. I thought that was an interesting idea.
WAIT. This is better.
It's just so blatantly stupid. Either the writer is frighteningly, FRIGHTENINGLY dumb, or this is a joke.
I know plenty of current Christians that would gladly bend your ear about who they're still tragically oppressed and how to fight to change that. (Hint: vote tea party)
I very much hope this is a joke. Besides the awful writing and confusion re: sorting hat dynamics, this made my soul barf a little bit:
I dunno, was it really a case of an oppressed minority turning the tables on their oppressors, or was it the oppressors deciding that Christianity was a useful enough tool - same power structures, just with a different cudgel.
But they didn't actually go out and hunt them down. Talk is talk. The actual violent persecution is a fairytale made up as a conversion tactic, because everyone knows how much Christians love to feel persecuted.
I would fucking CRUSADE for the Church of HP
That history isn't actually true. Christianity never suffered the mass persecution that some early "historians" invented. ike today's Christians, they were so bad at history that they claimed to be thrown to the lions in the Colosseum during a time period where the Colosseum didn't even exist.
"Women shouldn't not have careers because women are stupid!" Harry shouted indignantly. "Women are not stupid at all! Women should not have careers because women are nurturing and loving and their gifts serve them best in the home!"
TLDR: Christians, convinced that the universe revolves around them since 313 CE.
