You see, that’s a fair point in many cases. Certainly nobody should be criticising the manner in which one grieves. However when someone has abused their child, who has then gone on to commit suicide, it’s a different matter entirely.

Of course they do, and it’s their responsibility to do so. This post was more about the personal/emotional side of the situation. She’s wrong either way but I still feel terrible for what women of her generation and before (and after) have had to go through.

I never know whether to be upset or angry when older women espouse views like this. On the one hand she is utterly wrong in every way. On the other, I think about how often she must have been forced into sex she didn’t want (rape by our definition but not hers) and it is heartbreaking.
