Where do we put Frank, Sweet Dee and Dennis?
"He also had fun with the corporate sponsors… having a conversation about the urinary hue of Mountain Dew on
Mountain Dew week"
tl;dr
Ok I get what you're saying but I just don't view it as "contractual gunpoint." You can always say no. He didn't HAVE to go along with it. And I'm not looking for a villain. I'm just explaining why so many people think Jay Leno is a shitty person.
HE HAD CONAN ON HIS SHOW AND WISHED HIM WELL. They weren't two ships passing in the night here. They were two late night talk show hosts on the same network. One backstabbed the other. End of story.
Oh right Leno didn't change his mind. When handing the show over to Conan he also said: "By the way I'm not totally behind this. In fact, it's all totally contingent on NBC not offering me another late night talk show that would completely undermine the one I'm begrudgingly turning over to you."
In case the news or a sporting event ran late - not as a permanent change. To frame Conan's refusal to accept that as "breaking" his contract is absurd and totally disingenuous.
He DID pass the torch. And then he took it back. That's why he sucks.
Conan didn't violate anything. NBC tried to cheat by redefining what the Tonight Show was. That's why they had to pay him $40 million not the other way around.
"Why should he have?" Because that's what you do when a company comes to you with a plan you don't agree with.
I quasi-agree. I think Conan's always been a guy who needs to find his pace. Remember he was resoundingly bad and technically cancelled when he first took over Late Night. And I thought the TBS show was uncomfortable for the first year or so - though it's gotten moderately better since.
So? That's one song on his second album. Keep Ya Head up was on there two. Meanwhile his first album had Young Black Male, Trapped, Violent, Words of Wisdom, Brenda's Got a Baby, and Part Time Mutha… So what's your point?
That's why early 2pac is so great. I love his work so much but I'm sad songs like Dear Mama and Keep Ya Head Up that talked about the struggle gave way to songs about Alize & Cristal and motel sex. It's still good, and like, life changed for him and others. But you miss that realness.
I get what this guy is saying. Like, maybe dude's tryin but it's tough coming up in a rough neighborhood. Got a single parent. Tryna put himself thru school. Raising a sibling. Meanwhile they're rich and dancing around in some kinda spaceship with a big TV. Maybe be nicer.
