He combines rape and racism so seamlessly.

And Winona Ryder spent an entire decade relegated to b list supporting roles...for shop lifting.
The tapes are the thing that really get to me; he wishes actual rape and death on his ex-girlfriend. He’s frightening because the anger is so palpable, it’s almost a physical presence.
In their interactions since Obama’s election and inauguration and since, it looks like GWB and Laura Bush have legit respect for the Obamas. I also get the feeling that no matter your party, being President of the U.S. as well as First Lady is such a crazy, singular experience that it’s easy to bond with those who’ve…
I mean, look at all those August Wilson films that been done in recent memory...oh, wait a minute. Not to mention, the movie has been in development hell since Paramount optioned it back in 1987. Honestly, acting like this was a typical Oscar Bait movie considering who wrote it, the context of who and what it’s about…
I’m a hard nut to crack, but I’ve never been closed minded. I will definitely take your suggestion and look into August Wilson when I have an opportunity.
From angriest squirrel:
Honestly, I don’t think you comprehend the context of her speech within the fact that she won for a movie about the ordinary, average life of African-American people during a specific time period when a lot of plays didn’t write about that. Especially when there weren’t a lot of plays by an African-American writer.

What’s funny is that if that one sentence is taken in the context of her entire speech, where she specifically references regular people’s lives (“The stories of the people who dreamed big and never saw those dreams to fruition. People who fell in love and lost.”) what she meant becomes even more obvious. Talking…
She didn’t say “actors” she said “artists.” And I took her meaning quite literally: Art—acting, singing, painting, whatever—can literally show and celebrate someone’s life. I can’t read her mind, but based on other things she has said, I don’t think she meant something pretentious or terrible by it.
1000% How often does a black woman get the Oscar they deserve? No shit she’s overwhelmed when despite white supremacy there manages to be a moment of justice and goodness.
May make him an asshole but I’m not ready to equate men who cheat with men who sexually harass/assault women.
Guess I’m a dumb sucker, then, because it seemed sincere to me.
In what way was her speech horseshit?
I didn’t take her speech that way at all. She seemed very sincere and nearly overwhelmed to me.
Except she didn’t do that. Nice try.
Which is more than Jill Stein or her supporter Nina Turner can say.
This black woman didn’t hold her nose—I enthusiastically voted for HRC (as did my parents and both brothers), but yes I agree with your overall point. It wasn’t POC that did Clinton wrong and wasn’t a WOC’s fault white women didn’t vote for Clinton.
