I would generally agree with you. And I do think you make a good point. However, some authors do have a reputation of being adversarial with the commenters here. . . . even for really stupid things. And, generally, for dissenting.

Oh god. . . .WTF? Not only is that a horrible thing to say to someone (extreme understatement), but how can any person responsibly write about rape/non-consent after that?
What was the rape joke?
me too!! as always though, at least one good thing has come of it: a lot of intelligent comments from people who actually care about the ethics of journalism. . . . and the meaning of having commentary in the first place.
I wrote a post today about the bannings. I really, really hope they change this practice.
I wrote this post about it.
I know, right? I went down the rabbit hole when I first got banned. I was convinced I was being totally paranoid, but I wanted to figure out what had happened. At the time, I felt like I was wasting so much time. Now I’m happy I did it, because I understand how others have gotten banned, and it made me feel less awful…
I wrote a post about being banned. Twice now.
I agree with you. . . .Do you listen to this American life? They made a fact-checking error once. . . . .then aired this AMAZING 1-hr show where they investigated their own failure and why it happened. Nothing has ever made me respect a group of journalists more.
I wrote this post about the mysterious banning process—and how it sucks.
I am so, so sorry that you had to go through all of this. So much of what happens to us as woman, and how we deal with it (or don’t deal with it) does not occur in a vacuum. It interacts with our family history, our self-worth (like body-image), and so many other things. I, too, was drunk when I was raped (or had been…
I completely agree. . . . It’s anti-feminist and just a total sabotage of their business model. I wrote this post about having been banned (twice now!). . . .I hope people consider reading it. Like I’ve said to others, I don’t post a link to it in order to self-promote. . . .just because I hope this gets talked about.
I just wrote this post about having been banned. . . I’m not trying to self-promote here. . . .but just hoping that this comes to light. . . .and that not all the jezebel writers are down with it :/
That’s BS. . . .and seems to be a common theme around here. The whole “if you don’t like it, get over it” conveys such a lack of disrespect for readership. Which no good blog, or journalism, does. Yeah, if people are being non-sensical. or abusive. Ignore them. But if people are leaving thoughtful, dissenting…
I loved your post! From my experience, Gawker does not ban. . . .but Jezebel, or certain authors, will. . . .
Vargas-Cooper, I believe.
No! Thought I am sorry Pinkman banned you and I have heard he/she is a total jerk. It was Vargas Cooper. Twice now. Once for calling her out on the Amy Pascal article and now this.
this post is amazing. thank you.
Thank you!!!! :) X 100
It’s totally messed up. . . .
