Developers end up discarding and downscaling effects during the optimization process for consoles, and often will include those effects in the PC version. GPU companies like Nvidia essentially offer pre-done effects and features that companies can easily integrate with little work, and just raw performance yields…

I started replaying Fallout 3 myself about 2-3 days ago and I found that after getting to Megaton I've been crashing everytime I load into a building or new area and its now pretty much unplayable...
