There’s a certain amount of time behind the wheel before they have to take a break. Between average speeds etc, the 30 minute charge time gets you about as far as you can go, legally, before you need another charge. The break time is mandated at 30 minutes, so that benchmark seems to make a lot of sense.

Then you’re paying multiple drivers, and the $$ just went sideways, unless they actually agree not to be paid while riding around in the sleeper or wherever they hang out while not driving.

As Elon points out, you can’t actually drive 1000 miles in one shot in a diesel, legally. Though I have no idea how much respect folks actually pay to those type of regulations. If you could legally string together your ‘fuel’ stops and combine them with meals, while no longer having to watch the truck actually fuel…
