You’re right, it is the figure skating of motorsports. But no one really claims it to be anything other than that. I personally love it and watching in person is great fun.

To drift at speed you need grip, as counter intuitive as that sounds. That means that very powerful cars are set up for as much rear grip as possible hence the need for lots of power. It is a very odd sensation to be pushed into the back of your seat while going around a corner.

In all fairness - BMW tire pressure being off by even 1 psi can cause them to whip across 3 lanes of traffic without notice.

If you watched the video, you would understand why they used the VH engine. The regulations in their principality mean that a motor with an LS-size displacement would have to stay naturally aspirated, whereas they can run a smaller V8 with FI. They also recognize that neither is a strictly better way to make power,
