Not a romantic screwup per se...

I will say that the quality of food in DC (at least around Dupont Circle) declined when Mrs. Simpson’s closed.

American cheese is unamerican.

Am I the only person who likes wire hangers? For shirts, they’re great because they don’t take up any more space than they need to. I recently got a bunch and Spouse looked at my kind of cross-ways.

An homage it may be intended to be, but it’s not orange.

That’s a fair point. I think it’s a useful term in many regards, but its over-application may have robbed it of much of that usefulness.

When I was quick-scanning through the article, the thing that stood out by its (apparent) absence was MPDG. I mean, isn’t this pretty close to Cohen’s Suzanne?

It matches certain “Bill the Cat” aspects.

Agreed as to the band TWoD, though in this case I was referring to the BNL song (92 on the list above), which I find incredibly powerful.

I used to... Now have them on CD and MP3. These days you can even find video of Jules & Co.  performing.

Nobody’s heard of “Wake Up Little Susie?” “The War on Drugs”? “The Mariner’s Revenge Song”?
WHAT?

I haven’t lived in Chicago for years, but I used to take the Ravenswood El to teach at North Park (then college, now university).  Never visited Ravenswood for other purposes, though...

One more thing, though it’s a little counter-intuitive. Lend it to a friend, or take it to a used bookstore. These actions probably help the author in the long run rather than the book per se, but I’ve found so many authors I love in my local second-hand bookstore that have led me to make new book purchases that I

Glad to see Ann Sather is still on the list.  And, yes, the cinnamon rolls.

At some point in the mid-1980s, a colleague and I opened the keyboard of an IBM (iirc) terminal to clean it. Interestingly enough, inside the keyboard’s metal base was an electromechanical relay that opened/closed with each keypress. It served no other function that to confirm the keypress with noise and

Realizing this is a bit late...

That’s pretty much the nature of the Meritt. Bad sightlines to the traffic, and stop signs right at the entry.  Exit 60 in Hamden is the only safe one I know of. I wish there were a reliable way to move oncoming traffic into the left lane say 1/4 mile before the on-ramps. You wouldn’t have to strain your shoulder

I live near Hamden High School, where the only reasonably sane on-ramp is located, at Dixwell.  Aside from that, yeah, it’s a drag race.

When I was young, driving with the snow blowing across the highway got even more surreal when this came on the radio:
