This is likely to be a real problem though. With all of the squatting catchers do, at least when runners aren't on base, they can rest a bit. Now they're going to chase down every pitch. Teams may have to carry 3 catchers on the team at once because I don't see a catcher doing this late in the season on a daily basis

I think I pulled every muscle in my back just watching that...

MLB should def adopt this in only one league.

Distances to the backstop are recommended (25-30' in NCAA, 60' for MLB).

ONe of the things I love about baseball are these sometimes bizarre rules, and the impact they can have on gameplay. It fascinates me to see how even a slight change in the rules can alter the dynamic.

Manfred doesn’t hate baseball. He’s one of those thirsty types of executive who is desperate to make things “his” by making random, irrational changes. I’ve seen it so many times in corporate America where a new exec comes in any then things need to be re-orged and re-named for no reason.

Also this rule is going to suck major cock if it is expanded down into high school and the lower levels. Please for the love of God no.

I have no data but I’d wager most passed balls are on the pitcher.  Seems to me this rule will really amp up catcher/umpire collisions as the catcher bolts back to find the ball.  Some of those fat umps  are major road blocks.

For the dropped third strike rule, first base has to be open (or there have to be 2 outs so the person on first has nothing to lose by running), so I’d assume the same for this seemingly “expanded version” of the rule.

Wasn’t there an old (old old old) rule that a runner could return to first base from second? In essence, if he advanced to second and first was unoccupied he could try to ”steal first” the same way he could try to steal third? Maybe I'm totally making that up.

Can the batter do this if there is a man on first? Because at some point there will be a man on first that doesn’t run when this happens, and there will be a rundown between home and first. Can the runner make it back to home? And continue his at-bat?

As worthless as Rob Manfred is, this has nothing to do with him. The Atlantic League is independent ... it has no relationship with MLB. They can make up any rule they want.

Atlantic League pitchers aren’t quite as accurate as their MLB brethren.

It was used to commit the crime. Sounds like forfeiture to me!

What the fuck is up with that cops Professor Snape hair cut?

An abuse of police power, including lying, planting evidence, abject failure to obey or disregard for constitutional rights of citizens, etc. should be a mandatory jail term and a lifetime ban from any law enforcement position.

You make it seem as if there were a ton of potential deals out there for Westbrook, and Presti purposefully chose the one that lacks NBA-ready talent. I don’t believe that to be the case. Westbrook might have the 2nd worst contract in the NBA, and OKC were further constrained by wanting to do right by him. In fact,

The reason most of this movement / trade stuff happens is because of the ‘Max Contract’. If there was no ‘Max Contract’, you’d probably never have two actual in-their-prime superstars on the same team. If you didn’t have two on the same team, players wouldn’t need to exercise this level of agency just to feel like

And yet if the Civic driver were to pull his gun and kill the cop because he was scared (and who wouldn’t be after being hit like that?), HE’d go to prison.

Are you drunk already?? 12 in the after noon?? Really??? Bruh, let it go.
