He’s always been rather cold-natured (or warm-natured, whichever one means you’re always cold. I can never keep them straight).
I agree, to an extent...but when you’re as amply compensated as my parents are, ‘thrifty’ ceases to apply to something as mundane as your electric bill.
Realistically, I don’t think a simple modem / router combo is going to generate enough heat for this to be a major issue, unless you’re a crazy person like my father and keep the thermostat set to 80 degrees in the summer.

I think dontshootme’s point was that the gap between stereotypical home-buying age ( late 20’s, early 30’s ) and stereotypical retirement age ( late 60’s, early 70’s ) is more than adequate time to pay off a house, as most mortgages are (at least with any of my friends are homeowners) 25 to 30 year affairs.
