I agree. I cannot tell most people in Hollywood apart. I suspect part of the reason they cast all female roles to young, skinny, and blond is because if they are interchangeable, they are replaceable.

Excellent point. Needs more of this:

It’s the new American “capitalism.” We privatize gains and socialize losses. We use tax dollars to bail out banks that are too big to fail and subsidize all kinds of industries while simultaneously cutting corporate taxes.

This shows why unions are important.

It’s the responsibility of trans people to stop themselves being oppressed by faux-allies like Johansson?

Because her taking it actively prevents trans people from using their own voices in a system where they already experience extraordinary marginalization and erasure. She’s an active participant in the oppression of trans folks by taking this role. How is that not clear?

The fact that this site can’t see what’s wrong with this is sad.

Not only that but I’ve always viewed anti-vac people as basically saying “I’d rather my kid die of a preventable disease than be autistic.” Because that’s what it pretty much boils down to. They don’t want an autistic child, and they blame the vaccines for that possibility. They’d rather their child just outright die

And, if you don’t know what it’s like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions,

Cool. Again, I hire them and also know what they make. You have a profound inability to understand hyperbole particularly given that your chosen forum for discussion is the goddamned internet.

Prince wrote it for Sinead. And I’m a huge fan of Chris Cornell, but that cover just sucked.

Purple Rain will be forever off limits. Yes I know they happen but I refuse to listen to them... Therefore they don’t exist.

Groundskeeper Willy ring a bell or nah? Or do you just pick and choose what you find offensive? You’ve never faked an accent for any reason at all? Watch where you’re throwing those stones from that glass house kiddo.

As a non-horror fan I was inspired to watch this movie thanks to my life of John Krasinski + Emily Blunt and the fact that they were adamant about hiring a deaf actress to portray their daughter. I really enjoyed this film, and since I’m not really into the genre I won’t try to say that it’s not a horror movie, but I

Race-based self reflection / meaningful self awareness is something too many white progressives simply don’t have the capacity for. The Simpsons (almost entirely) white male writing room’s response to the Trouble with Apu is only a prominent example of this.

There really is a benefit, in a democracy, to working towards a society that takes seriously the concerns of marginalized groups, and refuses to depict or celebrate offensive caricatures and stereotypes, or otherwise accept racism in any form. And you can confirm this by asking just about any non-white person in our

So, I still come here because it’s helped me develop confidence and a voice in my feminism and to kill the “cool girl” I occasionally wanted to be. But a lot has changed in the last year or two.

Oh, no, I’m aware of the history of St. Pat’s (no snakes in Ireland), and of the glycerin trucks, the origins of the “paddy wagon,” and a host of other expressions, epithets, etc. that existed in bygone years.

Are they still happening now?

Do they still have an outsized impact on how I or anyone I’m related to live

There is a difference between appreciation and appropriation, and if people are telling you that what you’re doing is harming them and their culture, maybe you should listen to them.

somebody send this to that dude who keeps telling us he has a Black wife
