The british version had Dan Savage…

My Irish grandfather travelled to Britain to join the army- as did many Irishmen.

The first time I went to Belfast I saw dozens of teenage British soldiers- kids basically, walking around with rifles that appeared to be much too large for them. '71 nails this premise brilliantly.

Agreed- as an Englishman living in Ireland.

Definitely a straight A. The best film of 2014. It was great to see how many people from Love/Hate turned up in it. Also great to see Jack O'Connell win a BAFTA for Best Newcomer. He's come a long way since Cook.

    "Bring back Brimestone"…

You had slavery back then. Slavery still exists in America today, only now it's called "internships"

The problem is that America needs an unskilled underclass in order to do its service jobs for minimum wage (preferably lower). There was a time when free education for all made sense- back when businesses needed a workforce that could read and write; now, not so much. They just need peons who can put a burger in a bun

Not only do I not know who won, I don't even know who was playing. Do I win?

Avoid Maeve Higgins thoughshe's comedy krypton night. Once watched her absolutely silence an audience she was supposed to be warming up for Richard Hall, Lewis Black and Mike Wilmot.

    "acid"

"Captain Crilly, Pat wants to know if he can put his massive rocket in my docking bay."

Seem her stand-up show a few times. One of the few genuinely funny female comedians…

    Come Back Miss Noah?

Better- non bubblehead android, Simon Jones and David Dixon (or Geoffrey McGivens if you prefer)

"Stephen, this is Clem Fandango. Can you hear me scream?"

So, a Come Back Miss Noah reboot.

Interesting given that BBC had already signed the rights to fake-Lego company Character Building…

71' was probably the best film of last year (or as I like to call it Skins versus Love/Hate

    Totally agreed.
