It's a Jacob's Ladder situation

That was my thought exactly. A one-season series that adapts everything, even that long prologue without the main characters. A guy can dream.

The only way that they would even attempt to adapt this scene (and I would bet they didn't even try), is if they used the darkness of the tunnels as a way to not show anything visually, and instead opted to let the actors voices carry the scene.
