Feel like you misinterpreted what she was saying. The way I read that quote is playing scifi characters is almost a form of escapism for her. And also an added benefit for her other roles is it helped her with getting to character better.

Damn dude. Dont know how you’ve managed to last that long. Worked at company I hated for 5 years and it was an absolutely life draining experience. No amount of cool co-workers, yoga & pretending to be happy would actually help. In fact those things actually delayed my leaving the company.
