Europe doesn't have 17 foot land yachts with bald tires rolling down the Ford freeway. US is a whole different game...
It's not just emissions... that is a state controlled requirement. It's about safety, conforming to our lights and turn signals, bumper height, and can it take an F-150 to the face?
Oh, aluminum is way better/easier to rivet than weld. Welding causes localized heating, and can change the properties of the metal in and around the weld, which can compromise the quality of the spot weld. When using this special secret alloy that I know nothing about, it needs to be riveted within 6 months of…
The best answer about long term durability is going to ones like this field test. For every day and light duty use I think the bed will hold up as well no question, with the added benefit that it wont rust out. (Like every ford box ever made.)
"trucks, the Camaro, and some of the Cadillac line"
You sure do troll hard. The sonic is cheaper than walking. What do you expect? Of course it's crap. GM won't go under. Red tape, bloated top heavy companies, and the UAW held our progress down for decades. Our cars suffered a lot in the 80s-90s and still left a lot to be desired right up until now. The 'bailout' days…
The sheet metal is entirely different. So everything that attaches to it will have to be as well.

You must have missed the new MKZ. IF the MKC is as nice, it will sell too.
I programmed the robots that make that beautiful tailgate. (Also fenders, and a bunch of boring sub-assemblies)
Try and find the fuel door release on a fiero. I dare you.
If the F-150 hold up, even more of the mustang will be aluminum. (Hood and fenders are already aluminum)
Well a year ago if you could spell engineer Ford would hire you. They were short a million engineers. I don't know about now, but six figures (If you have experience and can sell yourself) was not unheard of.
I guess I agree that if you're not in the Auto Industry you won't make big bucks in Detroit. So maybe I disagree with the Silicon Valley thing. But there is money to be made, and a future for the city.
When they say Detroit they mean SE Michigan. If you are looking at an Auto company and they only offered you $20 an hour, you're doing something wrong...
Cost of living is 4x Detroit.
I know six U of M grads who now work in downtown Detroit. Where you went to school doesn't matter if you are making a company money. Smart, motivated, hard working people are moving to Detroit. We don't care what you think, we will succeed.
I love Detroit, and got a high paying job in a brand new manufacturing facility here. We are on our way up, get on board or get out of the way.
