I'd agree that the episode didn't work brilliantly, but I think what it goes for thematically should be addressed. I've stolen this point from somewhere, but anyway… it's essentially a self-critique by Charlie Brooker. Yes, you can call everything shit, mock the people in power, and (as in the other episodes of

Martial eagles 4 life!

Well, that was certainly… American. After the national anthem scene in Dark Knight Returns and now this, what are the odds that Nolan's next will be a two-hour slow motion shot of a bald eagle?

Is it me, or does this look essentially the same as The Pandorica Opens? Doctor's enemies all gather to get him due to ancient prophecy sorta thing…

Well retrovirals have made AIDS significantly less horrifying, I suppose. Granted, that's still 'pretty damn horrifying', but it could be less on people's minds now. And comparatively speaking other diseases barely get a look in.

I've just said this on a newer post, but before saying 'Bye' I'd attempt to explain what trust means. Trusting someone in one respect does not equal trusting them in all respects- e.g. you can trust your partner to be good to you, but not to fly a plane. Seems to me being 100% sure of not having an STI is more like

Depends what the trust is in. You can trust someone as a person (to treat you right, not cheat, share your secrets, massage your nostrils in just the right way or whatever) while still not trusting that they have the medical knowledge required to be 100% certain that they have nothing which can be sexually contracted.

Oh dear God. And to think they did all that just for, what, a few milliseconds of screen time? Unless they actually just did that to the dude, in which case… eh, I guess it's still work.

Ha, I should really come clean and admit that I and most of the other posters in this little thread are quoting the Scottish episode of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. It's a terrifying thrillfest that teaches the important lesson that maybe Scotland isn't so bad after all, and that sometimes you actually have to be a

You have showed courage and dignity. You are a true highlander (Scotch person).

I know "mon" means "man", but I don't think "och" means ANYTHING.

Oooooh, nice. Thanks for that.

Yeah, it's definitely one of the best on the album for me- maybe behind Black Skinhead, but that's about it. Bound 2, on the other hand, I just don't get the love for.

Thanks for this, AV Club, it's great to have some visual analysis going on, and this kind of stuff really makes use of the new format. More like this would be fantastic.

That seems odd to me… I don't recall the first episode of Mad Men well, but I doubt it was 'bleak and hopeless'. And the start of Breaking Bad was highly entertaining and action-packed. I don't think either of those shows suffer from an excess of darkness- Mad Men because it's too normal, and Breaking Bad because it

Yeah, it's happening to me too. Now I have two accounts with the same name, and it seems to automatically log me in to one of them at random. I would log in to the original account, but either I can't remember the password or it doesn't recognise it.

Yeah, I'm fascinated to see what they'll do. The relationships between the characters will have to be quite radically different, which is exciting and slightly scary. I hope they pull it off.

I don't remember the external shot, but I do remember an internal one somewhere in which I was sure the police/guards/whoever were wearing entirely wrong uniforms. Did look British, actually.

No love for Nick Cave, AV Club? C'mon, that album achieved the double whammy of being great (if not as great as his very best) and sounding like very little that he's done before over a career of several decades.
