I'm going to be honest, I think you raise a good point but I find it difficult to take your posts very seriously when you're still misgendering her. The (at the time) doesn't change the fact that your posts give me the knee-jerk reaction that you're trolling due to the repeated incorrect pronouns.

I HATE EMOTICONS TOO. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

She doesn't stop being a sweet, shy, genuine geek just because there's a side to her sexuality that he didn't know about. That's what pisses me off about it. Love his books, though.

You know, I really love his books and I don't have a problem with any of the listed things except that blog post, but I still think it's a pretty gross analogy to draw. Just because he's generally a good person doesn't mean he's perfect, or that he's not capable of doing things that are sexist. I think those things

I didn't judge anything about you except that we clearly have different taste in costume selection, chief.

Sorry, I suppose I shouldn't have presumed.

I figured, it's so irritating, isn't it?

For sure. I'm just sometimes interested in the different ways people treat the hobby and how you can sort of see motivations behind it in costume selection—she clearly enjoys having a lot of simpler outfits that are easy to wear and fun. Personally, I'm more into the craftsmanship side of it—I make one costume a year

I sincerely wonder why this whole situation seemed like a good idea to whoever sent that email. Too bizarre. I've been to conventions that had strippers or burlesque performances before, but I asked the woman dancing and she was in fact a stripper the rest of the time, too.

Yeah, when I read that I remembered how when I was around that age all I knew about gay people is that they were eww gross and totally not ok. I'm really, really glad that I haven't based any of my adult beliefs solely on what I thought when I was 9!

Sometimes I make my own little nail transfers using this sort of tutorial: http://www.nailnerd.com/creating-your-own-nail-transfers/ Then you can paint all the designs with your dominant hand and just tweezer them up when they're ready!

Holy shit, I'm practically rolling on the floor at the thought of that conversation starter.

Do you even know what the Westboro Baptist Church is?

Yeah, there are tons of female vocalists in other genres that I admire and appreciate, but it just doesn't work for me in metal. :/

I'm into either growly-type power metal (a la Amon Amarth) or more harsh black metal (Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, etc) and I feel like most female vocalists who make music in the same style, particularly in black metal, go for a more operatic thing, like Amberian Dawn. I just really don't care for it.

I've found myself in perpetual conflict over this because I'm a huge metalhead and an ardent feminist, but I just don't care for female vocalists in metal. :( I don't like the sound and I wish I did. Not sure how to deal with that. That said, I saw Alice Cooper open for Iron Maiden ~1.5 weeks ago and Cooper has a lady

Right!? I didn't care for her in the books but I actually really like her in the show, plus her armor OWNS. It's probably easier than the suit of full plate I'm working on now, too. Def on my list.

I thought that was just the best! I also saw a costume where this adorable old lady did a Howl's Moving Castle cosplay with her granddaughter and they were old and young Sophie. Rock it, cosplaying Grandmas of the world!

I have a "getting old" cosplay contingency plan! I'll start doing mostly stuff like Warhammer 40k - even some of the ladies in the Inquisition are all grizzled and awesome. Or like... Brienne of Tarth-style armor. I'll never quit!

Yes!!
