I love the built in certainty of “women’s sexual immorality”. Men made all the rules, both written and unwritten. Lots of these rules boiled down to the fact that men could (and were even expected to) have many lovers, but women could not have any lovers ever, excepting her husband. 

Protecting family isn’t hard to understand, it’s her son and people don’t like to believe people they love can do horrible things. Unless he gets charged with a crime, she will continue to stand by him.  Protecting family is the most normal thing the royal family does.
