“Basically, until society accepts that journalism isn’t much of a moneymaker and stops trying to milk it for cheap clicks”
The tone of this piece is bleak. And accurate.
It’s worth noting her two most popular shows, Seinfeld and Veep, were written by two TV legends, Larry David and Armando Ianucci. Have any of her movies been helmed by similar talent?
I find most people in the US who describe themselves as “libertarian” basically mean “Republican, but not willing to admit it”
Bill has gone the route of so many before him who turn into right wing assholes when they get old and won’t admit it.
He’s not on your side and he’s certainly not on liberals’ side. He’s one of the chief anti-vaxxers who can’t stop showering Netanyahu with praise, vehemently hates Muslims, supports restricting immigration, and stacks his panels with discredited right wingers. He’s a hack who has been making the exact same three…
The worst part about Bill Maher’s show is Bill Maher.
When I saw this (gulp) 25 years ago, I was blown away by both the movie and the soundtrack - which works perfectly with everything happening onscreen.
The main reason to dislike the Bourne sequels is, of course, that hack Palsy Greengrass directing them.
And one of the best showcases for Franka Potente, one of the great down to earth and yet ethereal movie stars
The movie also provides a nice little snap shot in time of post-unification Berlin when it was still in its Bohemian stage.
There are a few movies I hold in my heart as the platonic ideal of film, and this is one of them. I actually just rewatched it last week and it still grabs me from frame one and doesn’t let go until the credits roll.

I was introduced to the film when I was in high school, taking german class, and it was a mind-blowing introduction to modern European cinema and way more interesting than the stupid TV show designed for learners we also had to watch. A couple of years later in University it was one of the first movies I acquired in a…
I’ve never seen a photo of Trump that could be even generously described as “flattering.” He’s a gross old pig and always has been.
Meanwhile, The Algorithm™ sets full steam ahead for the Rosemary’s Baby prequel on the same network.
does the marketing machine not understand that bob odenkirk is a huge star? obviously cross has always been a little niche, but i’m a little surprised odenkirk’s name doesn’t get it past the goalie.
Aw. Now he’ll never find the real killers.
Happy to read that the drama, over the song that made me swear off classic rock radio stations forever, is finely over.
Yeah, I had a similar situation come up with a journal entry I wrote in 7th grade. God, that thing’s probably worth millions by now.
