There are things to like and dislike about this Batman, but one thing I did really enjoy was the commitment to making a film noir Batman, as far as a film noir aesthetic is achievable within the constraints of a studio superhero mega-joint.

S1 Daredevil and S1 Jessica Jones are the best marvel TV, in my opinion. Not a slight to Loki/Wandavision/FATWS - those are beautiful, well produced shows.

In some respects, this review and many others read more like disappointment with Zhao not being able to go off the MCU rails than being substantively about the movie itself.

I think there’s a general realization that makes MCU so successful is also what annoys critics the most- the familiar story beats, the CGI ending, the need to seed the next movie, etc.
