UVA in particular , it’s part of the guaranteed admission program in Virginia. If you maintain a high enough GPA at a participating community college you are admitted to UVA as a junior. I know some one who struggled in HS but turned it around ant NVCC and got in that way.

Ivy league schools are also notorious for grade inflation so as long as you show up and do some work you can probably skate by. For example
