Well, no. That’s just what happened in your family. Some of us have real food aversions that no amount of modeling will change - google “supertaster’ and welcome to my hell. I will try anything once; I’m not picky by choice - I ate insects with no qualms when I lived in Asia for a bit. But some textures will make me

“Those damn millenials!”

Allergies and sensitivities are hard for kids. I am allergic to eggs. When I was small, I refused to eat things with eggs in them, even cake and cookies and other treats. I knew it would make me wheeze and feel stuffy and horrible. The doctor said it was in my head. When I was a young adult I got a flu shot (not

This approach of forcing kids to eat things they are genetically pre-disposed to tasting as bitter,

If a kid does not like certain vegetables, you should not force them to eat it, whether or not certain vegetables (regardless of how they are prepared) taste very bitter to some, and not to others, is largely determined by genetics, and not personal preference alone.

As a kid I hated milk, cheese, yoghurt. I wasn’t sure why. I learned to eat/drink it when I grew older though, but I never really liked it. Turns out that I’m lactose intolerant, so there was a good reason for me hating those foods.

I think I did something like that to my 1 year old daughter. She is 24 now, but I still feel guilty thinking about my insisting she eats her gerber baby cereal (she only recently articulated that oatmeal makes her sick, before she just said she didn’t like it).

My mother grew up a decade before you, and her parents tried that method, and the end result is that she subsisted off of salami, pasta, and apples for a full year.

Yes, this exactly. My dad was born in the 60s and he’s the pickiest eater I know (and neither of his brothers or his parents are, so I don’t think it’s the parenting). Some people just don’t have tastes that conform with what society places importance in.

First, “kids these days” has been trite and overused for thousands of years. Let it go.

2-Kids cannot articulate very well the issue of food allergies/ food intolerance, because unless they go into shock at first bite, things like getting real sleepy, drowsy, no energy, or mild stomach discomfort, are commonly dismissed or ignored by parents, though kids are very much aware of when they don’t feel their

Picky eating is nothing new. You simply were not a fussy eater, nothing to do with the 60s which is when I was a child.
I also hate the term fussy eater, as why should you like everything? You are not expected to like all art or all music and as I really do not like bitter flavours why should I be forced to eat them.
