Yes, a more nutrient-filled lunch could help provide the energy needed to power through something like a workout, for example. But when it comes to fat storage, it doesn’t matter when you eat what you eat (as the OP stated) - it just matters what you eat.
Its real easy to eat dinner, lay around, and go to bed - letting all the calories go straight to fat, as opposed to having possibly a heavier lunch - physically, that can also help get you through the day mentally - and burning those calories through the day
